Some people who suffer from anxiety may find that self help books can help them cope with their feelings and also assist and support them in getting help. In this post I mention the Top 3 best anxiety books for anxiety sufferers. I have rated these based on what people have reviewed them. For each anxiety book I will mention the description that the author has set for it. Let’s Get to It!

Overcoming Anxiety by Helen Kennerley

This book provides help and advice that an anxiety sufferer can take note of and use to help themselves. The author has given the following description for the anxiety book.

This ever-popular guide offers a self-help program, written by one of the UK’s leading authorities on anxiety and based on CBT, for those suffering from anxiety problems. A whole range of anxieties and fears are explained, from panic attacks and phobias to obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and generalized anxiety. Making Friends With Anxiety (My Personal Favorite Anxiety Book) by Sarah Rayner

When you are suffering from a mental health condition you may find that you are panicking about your mental health condition constantly. This can add to your anxiety and problems which is why I think you can find this book rather helpful as it will help you understand your anxiety better.

Sarah Rayner shares her insights into this extremely common and often distressing condition with compassion and humor. She reveals the seven elements that commonly contribute to anxiety including adrenaline, negative thinking and fear of the future, and explains what causes worry and panic to become such a problem for many of us.

If you suffer from panic attacks, a debilitating disorder or simply want to spend less time worrying, Making Friends with Anxiety will give you a greater understanding of how your mind and body work together, helping restore confidence and control.

I have added a review on the book that was posted on Amazon. I have chosen this review in particular because I feel it gives details on how the book has helped.

I have read lots and lots of books about anxiety and depression and have found this book to be very helpful without being overwhelmingly complicated or too heavy to read while suffering from and anxiety and depression. It also contains similar content to what I have learnt from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy therapists which would be very helpful to others. In particular I found the chapter about adrenaline very helpful and have learnt that a lot of the symptoms I have are caused by this.

Anxiety Re-balance by Carl Vernon

When you are suffering from Anxiety it is likely that you have a lot of unanswered questions going on in your mind. These questions might be playing on your thoughts – all this does it add stress and panic to your mind causing even more problems. This book can help answer your questions and therefore setting your mind at ease and giving you some relief from the panic you might be experiencing.

“Throughout the fifteen years I battled with anxiety and depression I was constantly looking for a cure – until I realized I was looking for answers that didn’t exist. Don’t waste another minute.” In this refreshingly honest and open book, Carl shares his personal experience and the principles he used to go from being housebound to helping others across the world overcome anxiety and depression.

This is a review that someone  left for this book. I chose this review because it shows how much the book helped the reader and how it gave him/her hope. Having hope is one of the most important things when you are suffering from any mental health illness or are faced with any low mood situation

All I can say is thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Because with this book I’m starting to see that there’s hope for even the deepest of mental health challenges others are facing today, revival is possible, after so many years of helping people suffering from crippling anxiety and paranoia this book is saving people’s lives. You are a hero to me, Carl Vernon.

I was wondering this myself. Of course there are a ton of self help books out there, but finding the one that works for you is not an easy task when you have to buy them first to get a look at them. Thanks for showcasing these.

    • No problem. Dr Claire Weekes has a great book for anxiety named Hope And Help For Your Nerves. Highly recommend it.

Making friends with Anxiety is a book that I read. It is very good and gives you a good, different mindset towards the disease, which is what I think people need. Thanks for the other suggestions.

I am going to check these books out. As some who has had anxiety issues for 15 years with no help from a medical doctor, I am looking outside the box. I know there are ways to overcome it. I know someone who has. I just have to find the best resources. Thank you very much for this list. I am going to check out the rest of this blog for more information on anxiety.

It’s definitely difficult knowing where to start when looking for a self-help book on anxiety or anything self help related, there is just so much out there, and sadly some of it is garbage. So I am really thankful for this list of good anxiety books – thanks!

    • These truly are the best anxiety books in my opinion Kelly (Maybe I could even add my own to this list at the front page ;)). The best anxiety books come from people who’ve suffered as you have, because those people are the true greatest healers of our time. Not the ones who preach what to do, and never can relate or show you how to do it on a practical level.

My quest to actually get one of the best books that talks about how to overcome anxiety has actually landed me here. I’ve seen a number of books out there but I really need a recommendation so I can be sure of getting the best out of the book. I think the description about “Overcoming Anxiety by Helen Kennerley” has actually caught my eyes. I’ll consider getting a copy of the book. Thanks for the guide. I’d hope it will be help.

    • Hi Mitchelle. Don’t forget to pick up the digital copy of Me Vs Myself On And Off The Court from the sign up sheet 🙂 I’ve been told it’s inspiring and relatable as it gets for health anxiety sufferers.

  8. Chantelle Mar 5, 2017

I am aware that there’re many anxiety books out there, some with useful information why some with inadequate information, so from your listing order I guess I am interested in buying number two.

    • Also don’t forget to pick up my personal anxiety book at the home page of this site. The inspiration and practical tools within it will help a health anxiety and Generalized Anxiety Disorder sufferer.

I haven’t read any of these but from what I’ve read on the posts they seem to be very helpful. Thank you for sharing good resources on anxiety. This helps both practitioners who help people suffering from anxiety and also helps those who suffer from anxiety as well. I’ll definitely share this list of best anxiety books to my friends who will be able to benefit from this. I’m looking to read the Anxiety Re-balance book first! 🙂

I sounds silly but I typically avoid reading things about anxiety because I don’t like thinking about the negative way it makes me feel. But I just got a new library card and I really want to try giving these books a shot. Maybe it’ll help to read these best anxiety books from others’ points of view.

  12. Dennis, nice work on putting together this list on Best Anxiety Books. I have a friend that confided in me recently that she has been struggling with anxiety for several months now. I know that she is still nervous about talking to a professional so I think letting her know there are some good anxiety books oit there will help her get started on having the best life she can.

  13. Melanie Apr 23, 2017

Sarah Rayner’s book is one of the best anxiety books I’ve ever read. My niece is starting to develop a very bad anxiety and we think it was all triggered by a bad breakup. Her mother passed away last year and this worsened her condition and I’m doing my best to help her out as she refuses any professional help. Thanks for the roundup, will check the other two books when I get home, I need all the help I can get right now.

  14. These are some great titles for self help books on the topic of anxiety. Self help books are really beneficial for dealing with internal issues. I’m going to share this page with one of my friends because I know that she would benefit from reading 1 or more of the books listed above. Thanks for this, great list!

  16. Kelly Jul 12, 2017

Thanks for the great book suggestions. I wonder if these are also available as ebooks? I will have to sign up for The Anxiety Guy book as well – I didn’t realise that there was a free book. Self help books like these really do help – they are even helpful to people without anxiety, but that has a friend or loved one that suffers from anxiety.

I have suffered from Panic and anxiety disorders for the past 3 years. I couldn’t fly, drive, or leave house. It got to a point where I couldn’t stay in my own room alone. During this whole phase, I consulted so many therapists and psychiatrists and consumed numerous medications but I felt I would never be cured because I was dependent on the medications. After interacting with Dennis Simsek, things started getting on track for me. So far, I am satisfied with my recovery. Hats off to Dennis!

  20. Ruth McIntyre Aug 1, 2017

I never really understood my anxiety until I had a conversation with Dennis and now I am free of all the fears and am capable to manage and understand all facets of my anxiety. Thanks for making my life anxiety free.

My mother has been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, and I’ve been looking for books that can at least help her get through this phase. Thank you for sharing these wonderful writings; particularly the book about overcoming anxiety by Helen Kennerley, wherein it provides help and advice that an anxiety sufferer can use to help themselves. I hope I’ll also find a book about relieving stage fright.
