GAD people can’t stop thinking and worrying about family, health, school, money, or work. The worry is generally not proportionate to the actual stress causing event and unrealistic. The daily life tends to be wrecked with constant dread, fear, and a state of worrying. Anxiety will eventually become so focal to one’s thought process that it can adversely affect routine life functions such as relationships, school, work, and social activities.
A few common signs and symptoms of generalized anxiety are listed below:
- Unrealistic view of varied issues

Causes of generalized anxiety disorder
- Doctors are not aware of the precise cause of GAD, but most medical experts believe that certain factors like brain chemistry, genetic, and environmental stressors play a contributory role
- People with a family history of the disorder are at greater risk of developing GAD. It thus has a tendency to be passed along generations
- Different stress causing events like job changes, death of loved one, etc., can also trigger generalized anxiety. Withdrawal or use of addictive substances, which includes caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine, can exacerbate GAD
- Abnormal functioning of nerve cell pathways and neurotransmitters connecting brain areas involved in emotion and thinking has been associated with generalized anxiety. Psychotherapies, medications, and other treatments which help correct such malfunction can enhance the signalling process and improve depression and anxiety symptoms
