“You Are One Yoga Class Away From A Change In Emotional State.”

Do you suffer with health anxiety? If so, rest assured that you are most definitely not alone. Of all known mental health disorders, health anxiety has been found to be the fastest rising. As much as 9% of the entire world’s population is thought to suffer with health anxiety.

But what can be done? Well, rather than relying on harmful drugs and medications, a lot more people are now taking more of a holistic approach to treating health anxiety. Yoga for health anxiety for example, is incredibly effective and has been found to help alleviate the symptoms of health anxiety very effectively. But how does yoga for health anxiety actually help? Here’s a more detailed look.

Yoga puts you in control

A lot of the time, anxiety is caused by or exasperated by, feelings of not being in control. Yoga however, gives the control to you. Of course your instructor will teach you how to perform the poses, but ultimately it is down to you to control your breathing and ensure that you perform the poses correctly.

You are in control of what you can and cannot do. It may not sound like a big deal, but being in a position where you dictate what happens to you, helps prove that you run the show and call the shots, not your health anxiety.

Yoga is all about breathing

Individuals struggling with health anxiety, especially when suffering an anxiety attack, often find themselves struggling to control their breathing. When dealing with an anxiety attack, people often breathe erratically, and once they are able to control their breathing, the attack begins to subside. Yoga for health anxiety is ideal because it teaches you to control and regulate your breathing. Once you are able to control your breathing, you will find your health starting to ease off.

Yoga improves your mood

Another way in which yoga is able to help deal with health is down to the fact that yoga helps improve your mood. Yoga is a form of exercise and physical activity, and like many others, it stimulates the production and secretion of neurotransmitters responsible for feelings of happiness and relaxation.

“In particular, yoga has been proven to increase the amounts of dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins in the body. These are known as ‘happy chemicals’ because they help elevate your mood. The happier you feel, the less noticeable your health anxiety will become.”

Yoga helps you get to sleep

Health anxiety, and many other mental health disorders, are often made much worse by a lack of sleep. To make matters worse, they are also often the root cause of insomnia and poor sleeping patterns, so sufferers can find themselves stuck in a seemingly never-ending vicious circle. Yoga helps you to relax at night before you go to bed, plus, thanks to hormones and chemicals in the body, including melatonin and serotonin, it helps make you sleepy so you fall asleep and stay asleep at night.

When I come across posts like this, I feel like doubting the information until I gave yoga a try. I used to be a victim of emotional trauma and anxiety, but yoga played a vital role in dealing with these conditions. I feel better after every yoga class.
