Mental Health Issues, A True Guessing Game

March 30, 2016

The reason we know so little about anxiety and other mental health issues is because there is no way to find out. Finding what actually causes mental health issues such as anxiety isn’t really possible. What doctors and we as life coaches do know is that tragic events such as the death of a loved one, or bullying can trigger mental health issues.

Why Can’t We Find Out About Anxiety

Anxiety along with other mental health conditions are diagnosed based on how that patient feels. There is no “test” for it which means unless you know the signs of it you may be suffering without knowing. This makes finding out about anxiety hard.

For us to be able to understand mental challenges we need to be able to understand the brain and how it functions. Without knowing how the brain functions there is no way to understand conditions related to it that can’t be diagnosed.

What We Do Know About People’s Mental Health Issuesmental health issues

What we actually know about anxiety is based on what we know about all mental health issues. And while there are people who are exploring mental health challenges such as anxiety closely, it is hard to understand because of the sheer fact that our brains are so complicated!

We know that mental health issues change how we see the world and make us do and feel things that we normally wouldn’t do and feel. While this is a very vague definition it is what we actually know.

We All Have Mental Health

It is the same as physical health. The line is drawn between having a good mental health and a mental health issue. People think having a mental health condition means you are mental, it doesn’t! It just requires care and professional help like physical problems – think of it as a cough, but in your head.

Learn to recognise the signs of anxiety as it starts to build up and be prepared to act quickly on the problems causing this. Problems seem to grow in intensity if they are not dealt with. The relief will be instant and you’ll be glad that you did.

It’s important to realise that you always have choices and learning how to properly manage your mental health challenges will make you a happier person, and really will improve your life. Believe in yourself and in the power of your mind.

My first doctor mentioned this was also a guessing game at first. There were a lot of sessions before she could understand what was really creating the anxiety in my life. Of course, some of it was my inability to think straight, or without “crossed wires” and I have been doing exercises for that. Do you think that has a lot to do with a persons stress and anxiety?
