Why Your Anxiety Never Settles (Even When You Try to Calm Down)

September 28, 2026

I shared something with my anxiety group coaching members last weekend that stayed with me. Many of us spend so much time trying to calm anxiety that we never pause to ask what feeling safe actually means. That question is at the heart of today’s episode.

Why Does Anxiety Keep Coming Back?

You can make anxiety recovery a priority, practise calming techniques, and understand your symptoms better than you used to. Yet a new sensation appears, and suddenly you are checking, analysing, and wondering if you missed something.

That cycle can leave you feeling as though none of your work is making a difference. But the question may be deeper than, “How do I calm down?” It may be, “What am I asking calm to prove to me?”

In this episode of The Anxiety Guy Podcast, we explore why relief can feel temporary when you are still looking for certainty every time your body gets your attention.

What Does Feeling Safe Really Mean?

Many people imagine safety as a life without uncomfortable sensations, difficult emotions, or uncertainty. When that becomes the goal, even a small change in how you feel can seem like a setback.

I want to invite you to look at safety differently. This conversation is about your relationship with what you feel and the choices you make when anxiety shows up. It is a chance to step back from the constant effort to fix yourself and consider what it would mean to trust yourself in everyday life.

Press play above and listen with curiosity. You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin.

The Anxiety Guy

I understand how you feel; I have been there. Generalized anxiety turned to panic disorder, and panic disorder turned to health anxiety.

It was a painful and sometimes hopeless time, until I built a structured approach to reverse my negative thinking patterns and build long-term, inner calm.

You can recover. And I can help.
